Barbados is the most easterly of the
Caribbean Islands.
Although the Iberians opted not to settle on the island, they did give it
a name, Los Barbados (the "bearded ones"), which is generally believed to
have derived from the aerial roots of the Bearded Fig Tree.
The English arrived in 1625; the colony became
independent in 1966. Traffic operates on the left.
Barbados affords 900 miles of pristine beaches, a rugged Atlantic
coastline, fertile valleys, distinguished plantation houses,
stalactite-studded caves, a wildlife preserve, and attractive tropical
gardens.

Pier Information
The ship will dock at the Bridgetown Passenger Terminal.
The town center can be reached on foot in 15-20 minutes or via a short
taxi ride.
Shopping
Best buys include china, crystal, perfume, cosmetics,
jewelry, leather articles, and an excellent selection of paintings and
crafts.
Cuisine
The national dish is the delicate-tasting flying fish
served broiled, baked, deep-fried or stuffed. Lobster, crab and kingfish
are also popular.

Trafalgar Square
The main square features the monument to Horatio Nelson, and the
Legislative buildings.
